Acrylic Painting for Beginners

During this course you will receive both group and individual support in order to help you learn more about Acrylic Painting.

Topics that may be covered include: 

• Understand colour theory


• Mix colours


• Apply more advanced techniques using acrylics


• Understand composition


• Understand perspective

This is a structured course with demonstrations of techniques and individual coaching.You will use real life subjects and photographs, to learn to observe shapes and colours and apply acrylic to achieve wonderful effects.

All our courses are made up of elements of speaking & listening, reading and writing, and you will work using these elements throughout the course. 

Some of the skills you gain on this course could help increase your opportunities for employment or working within the community. Learning takes place in a friendly classroom setting, which is a great place for social interaction and helping you meet new people. 

Practice at home is advisable to enhance your learning experience. 

This course is subsidised by Government funding so you should aim to attend the whole course.

There are no Pre-course information sessions or interviews in order to enrol on this course. 

Your tutor will work with you to develop a Personal Development Plan (PDP) which will help you review your progress towards achieving your goals during the course. 

There is no qualification or examination attached to this course. 

This is a Beginners course, and you will be expected to have no experience in the subject, or very basic knowledge of the subject including some memory of the subject from school.

You will need a notebook, pen and A4 folder. 

?You should also bring any relevant art materials that you have available to the first session, but before buying expensive materials and equipment please discuss their purchase with your tutor.

You will be expected to purchase your own materials as the course progresses.

Advice about appropriate choices will be given during the first session.

You are advised to wear old clothes or an overall to protect your clothes.

Places on courses: many of our courses are in high demand. If you have been offered a place but no longer require it, please advise us immediately as you may be preventing another learner from taking the place. Where learners do not attend the first session, without having given prior notice, Skills & Learning reserve the right to offer the place on the course to another learner; you will not be eligible for a refund it it is outside of the terms outlined in our cancellation policy.

Fully funded learners: if you have been offered a fully funded place on a course and no longer require it, you must advise us before the course starts so that your place can be offered to someone else. We reserve the right to withdraw future offers of fully funded places if you regularly do not start or complete funded courses.

Home study: you will be required to do significant study at home between sessions to assist with your learning and progress.

Proof of identity: please bring photographic ID and your National Insurance number with you to your first session. You will also need to provide it for any external examinations you take.

Off-site activities: with some courses, there may be the opportunity for off-site enrichment activities at additional cost, for example: gallery, museum or exhibition visits. Where this is an integral part of the course, your tutor will discuss the arrangements with you during your induction.
