Distance Learning - Get Number Confident (Multiply)
A short intensive course designed for those who want to build confidence in using numbers in everyday situations.
What the course is about

- Do you want to improve your confidence and skills using numbers?
If you answered yes to any of these questions, this could be the course for you. It’s a short course with no exams and it focusses on building skills and confidence for people needing maths for everyday life.
This free course is specifically designed to cater for adults who want to improve their maths skills to help cope with everyday living. Delivered to small groups and online, the sessions will boost your confidence with a basic understanding of numbers working at your own pace in a relaxed, friendly, and welcoming environment. As the course is tailored to meet your needs you will be able to set your own targets each week.
This 6-week course covers adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing and other maths topics essential for everyday life.
Your tutors will:
- Introduce these topics in a straightforward way, using examples from real life
- Give lots of opportunity to put your maths skills into practice
- Provide regular feedback on your progress and support with any topics where you need more help
- You will also have opportunities to move on to other courses when you have completed the six weeks.

The first session will be a chat with your tutor to find out about your learning goals and check you are on the right course for your current level before we complete your enrolment. This may include an online assessment.
Assessment of progress, tests, exams
There are no exams on this course although you may be expected to complete some homework tasks and assessments.
Your tutors will review your progress with you from time to time to make sure you are staying on track for your learning goals.
Who the course is for / Previous experience, knowledge or qualifications
This course is for adults (19 or older) who do not already have GCSE maths at Grade C (4) or above or an equivalent Level 2 maths qualification.
It is for people who want to improve their maths skills and confidence for everyday situations and overcome maths anxiety.
Materials and costs
This course is funded by the Government’s Multiply fund. Therefore, there are no fees or charges for course materials. However, you are expected to have your own pens and pencils, paper, ruler and calculator.
We may be able to provide equipment loans and financial support for learners on a low income: more information.

English, maths and computing skills: all of our courses support the development of relevant English, maths and computing skills.

Attendance: before enrolling you should ensure that you can attend all classes offered as far as possible.
Places on courses: many of our courses are in high demand. If you have been offered a place but no longer require it, please advise us immediately as you may be preventing another learner from taking the place. Where learners do not attend the first session, without having given prior notice, Skills & Learning reserve the right to offer the place on the course to another learner; you will not be eligible for a refund it it is outside of the terms outlined in our cancellation policy.
Fully funded learners: if you have been offered a fully funded place on a course and no longer require it, you must advise us before the course starts so that your place can be offered to someone else. We reserve the right to withdraw future offers of fully funded places if you regularly do not start or complete funded courses.
Home study: you will be required to do significant study at home between sessions to assist with your learning and progress.

Proof of identity: please bring photographic ID and your National Insurance number with you to your first session. You will also need to provide it for any external examinations you take.
Off-site activities: with some courses, there may be the opportunity for off-site enrichment activities at additional cost, for example: gallery, museum or exhibition visits. Where this is an integral part of the course, your tutor will discuss the arrangements with you during your induction.
