This friendly and welcoming session will introduce you to Chinese Brush Painting so that you will be able to create your very own unique piece of art.

What the course is about

During this course you will receive both group and individual support, in order to help you to discover the techniques of Chinese painting using watercolours to produce unique pieces. During this course you will:




  • Learn basic painting techniques

  • Plan and create designs for different projects

  • Explore painting a range of subjects - flowers, fruit, animals and birds



Some of the skills you gain on this course could help increase your opportunities for employment or working within the community. Learning takes place in a friendly classroom setting, which is a great place for social interaction and helping you meet new people.



Practice at home and completion of homework is advisable to enhance your learning experience.



This course is subsidised by Government funding so you should aim to attend the whole course.

There are no Pre-course admission sessions or interviews in order to enrol on this course.

Assessment of progress, tests, exams

There is no qualification or examination attached to this course.

Who the course is for / Previous experience, knowledge or qualifications

This is a beginner's workshop, you will be expected to have no experience in the subject, or very basic knowledge of the subject including some memory of the subject from school.

Materials and costs

You will need: 




  • A notebook and pen 

  • An A3 or A4 sketch book 

  • Pencils, rubber and a ruler 

  • Some materials will be supplied.  

  • However, we recommend you bring a range of drawing and painting materials to the session.  



You are advised to wear old clothes or an overall to protect your clothes.

Off-site activities: with some courses, there may be the opportunity for off-site enrichment activities at additional cost, for example: gallery, museum or exhibition visits. Where this is an integral part of the course, your tutor will discuss the arrangements with you during your induction.
