Family Learning: Earth Day 2025 - Junk to Funk and Sustainable Art

During this course you will receive both group and individual support to help you learn more how you can support waste reduction.  You will also reuse some everyday items to create something new. 

There is always room for improvement when it comes to taking care of the planet. So, if you love recycling, hate wasting things these workshops are for you: 

In this workshop we will investigate some or all the following: 

• Upcycling   


• Reimagining    


• Collaborating


• Design 


• Reuse, recycle, repair, re-gift, reinvent, 


• Make your own.

All our courses are made up of elements of speaking & listening, reading and writing, and you will work using these elements throughout the course.

Some of the skills you gain on this course could help increase your opportunities for employment or working within the community.  Learning takes place in a friendly classroom setting, which is a great place for social interaction and helping you meet new people.

Practice at home and completion of homework is advisable to enhance your learning experience.

This course is subsidised by Government funding so you should aim to attend the whole course. 

You are advised to wear old clothes or an overall to protect your clothes.

There are no Pre-course information sessions or interviews in order to enrol on this course.

Please ensure you have read and understood our STEPS guidance in order to accurately enrol upon the correct level course for you.

 

There is no qualification or examination attached to this course.

This is a Beginners course, and you will be expected to have no experience in the subject or very basic knowledge of the subject, including some memory of the subject from school.

This course is for parents, carers or grandparents of a child below the age of 16 yrs.

All basic resources and materials will be provided but it would be great if you could bring in some clean, used household items such as plastic bottles, plastic containers, glass jars etc.

Following the successful completion of this course, other courses at the next levels may be offered by Skills & Learning or other local providers.

Attendance: before enrolling you should ensure that you can attend all classes offered as far as possible.

Places on courses: many of our courses are in high demand. If you have been offered a place but no longer require it, please advise us immediately as you may be preventing another learner from taking the place. Where learners do not attend the first session, without having given prior notice, Skills & Learning reserve the right to offer the place on the course to another learner; you will not be eligible for a refund it it is outside of the terms outlined in our cancellation policy.

Fully funded learners: if you have been offered a fully funded place on a course and no longer require it, you must advise us before the course starts so that your place can be offered to someone else. We reserve the right to withdraw future offers of fully funded places if you regularly do not start or complete funded courses.

Home study: you will be required to do significant study at home between sessions to assist with your learning and progress.

Proof of identity: please bring photographic ID and your National Insurance number with you to your first session. You will also need to provide it for any external examinations you take.

Off-site activities: with some courses, there may be the opportunity for off-site enrichment activities at additional cost, for example: gallery, museum or exhibition visits. Where this is an integral part of the course, your tutor will discuss the arrangements with you during your induction.
