Materials and costs
We would initially recommend using a pair of straight 4 or 4.5mm needles, metal or wooden needles are fine to start with and these are often available in charity shops. You will also need some DK yarn. We recommend starting with an inexpensive acrylic yarn; these can often be purchased in various charity shops as well as shops like Poundland and The Range.
During sessions, your tutor can advise about other fibres. Two 100g balls of yarn in your chosen colour should be enough to complete the stitch sampler scarf. Cygnet, Stylecraft Robin and Woolcraft all create budget yarns that should be around £3 a ball. Whilst you are welcome to use any colour you choose, black can sometimes be hard to see the stitches so I wouldn’t recommend black or very dark colours for your first project.
You will also need to bring along a notepad and pen/pencil.
