What the course is about
A relaxed and welcoming course that will focus on teaching the skills and methods to manage everyday stress and anxiety.?
This course will include:
- Recognising the impact and symptoms of stress
- Identify situations and circumstances that cause stress
- Exploring different ways to reduce stress and feelings of anxiety
- Identify steps you can take to reduce stress
This course will encourage you to increase your confidence and ability to make informed choices about personal and professional issues, helping to reduce social exclusion and isolation.
All our courses are made up of elements of speaking & listening, reading and writing, and you will work using these elements throughout the course.
Some of the skills you gain on this course could help increase your opportunities for employment or working within the community.
Practice at home and completion of homework is advisable to enhance your learning experience.
This course is subsidised by Government funding so you should aim to attend the whole course.
Pre-course information session or interview
There are no Pre-course admission sessions or interviews to enrol on this course.
Assessment of progress, tests, exams
Your tutor will work with you to develop a Personal Development Plan (PDP) which will help you review your progress towards achieving your goals during the course.
There is no qualification or examination attached to this course.
Who the course is for / Previous experience, knowledge or qualifications
This course is for complete beginners, so you do not need any previous experience in the subject.
You should have an interest in your own potential and what life has to offer. You will need to be prepared to take an active part in the sessions and to challenge some of your thoughts and beliefs.
This course may be of particular help to you if you are on the verge of a life change, are looking for work or thinking of changing your career direction.
You need to consider the type of information that you are prepared to share with others in the class. However, this is a skills development course and you may wish to talk to a Doctor or other professional before joining this class if you have particular issues that you need to explore.
Materials and costs
You will need a notebook, pen and A4 folder.
During the first session your tutor may discuss additional materials to bring if possible.

You will be encouraged to enrol on other employment related FREE provision such as Road to Work courses, First Aid workshops, Food Safety workshops and Functional Skills courses – all of which will help improve your chances of finding employment or progressing within your current employment.

Attendance: before enrolling you should ensure that you can attend all classes offered as far as possible.
Places on courses: many of our courses are in high demand. If you have been offered a place but no longer require it, please advise us immediately as you may be preventing another learner from taking the place. Where learners do not attend the first session, without having given prior notice, Skills & Learning reserve the right to offer the place on the course to another learner; you will not be eligible for a refund it it is outside of the terms outlined in our cancellation policy.
Fully funded learners: if you have been offered a fully funded place on a course and no longer require it, you must advise us before the course starts so that your place can be offered to someone else. We reserve the right to withdraw future offers of fully funded places if you regularly do not start or complete funded courses.
Home study: you will be required to do significant study at home between sessions to assist with your learning and progress.

Proof of identity: please bring photographic ID and your National Insurance number with you to your first session. You will also need to provide it for any external examinations you take.
Off-site activities: with some courses, there may be the opportunity for off-site enrichment activities at additional cost, for example: gallery, museum or exhibition visits. Where this is an integral part of the course, your tutor will discuss the arrangements with you during your induction.
